An open letter to all fitness center regulars:

To the guy who sits on the weight bench watching himself flex in the mirror:

While it is quite impressive that you can make your pecs dance, it would be nice if perhaps that you could do it somewhere other than the only free weight bench.

Gym is no longer solely for working out

The gym was once known as a place to get in shape, lose weight and replace fat with toned muscle. Unfortunately, this is no longer always the case.

The gym can be simply split into two main categories: those who come to sweat and those who don't.

You can tell pretty easily who's in which category just by scanning the Ritchie Center's Coors Fitness Center.

Letter: Palestine neglected by genocide awareness organizers

Dear Editor,

The recent initiative to acquaint the student body with the historical and present-day realities of genocide was a commendable effort. However, I was very disappointed to find out that although the organizers mentioned genocide in Rwanda, Darfur, and Bosnia, they failed to shed any light on the genocide that has been perpetrated for 60 years now against the Palestinian people.

For years, Americans have been transfixed by the latest imports from across the pond. Such was the case with the band Air Traffic, which opened for Elbow at the Bluebird Theater on Friday night.

Having never heard of the band prior to the show, I was naturally a bit skeptical about its sound.

'Iron Man' is pure gold on silver screen

The release of "Iron Man" has gotten a lot of hype, which can sometimes be disastrous for a film that fails to live up to audience expectations. Thankfully, Marvel's latest foray onto the silver screen suffers no such problem.

Fans of the comic book will be satisfied, if not downright impressed, and newcomers to the "Iron Man" franchise should find this film an excellent introduction to what is most certainly going to be Marvel's next great series of superhero movies.

Indie band rocks Denver

The Midnight Juggernauts played the Hi-Dive last Tuesday to an amped up and enthusiastic crowd. The band offers a unique mix of dance based indie rock with psychedelic, space-age sound.

The band relies heavily on a combination of synthesizers and strong percussion.

Rik Reppe promises musical storytelling experience

Rik Reppe is expected to bring a unique blend of poetic narrative and music when he and two other musicians perform at the Newman Center on Saturday. They will perform "Glorious Noise," a medley of songs and stories about New Orleans and its residents.

According to Reppe, the city is a "wonderful stew" of people, music and culture that is often misrepresented in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
