With so many universities in Colorado going “green,” it is a positive thing that DU is joining in the effort.

In the recent edition of the Clarion, Erin Holweger discussed the new Eco-Cup that DU is selling. Like many college campuses in Colorado, DU is making an effort to be environmentally friendly. http://www.duclarion.com/news/eco-cup-reduces-campus-waste-1.1160029
In 2010 the Sustainable Endowments Institute’s College Sustainability Report Card DU was given a B+ on the “Green Report Card.” http://www.du.edu/today/stories/2009/10/2009-10-19greenrepor.html
DU was able to obtain a better grade than the B- they received last year because of the improvement that was seen in the following categories:
- Endowment transparency
- Administrative leadership
- Student commitment to combating climate change
Many universities around the state of Colorado have been working on being eco-friendly. It makes sense then that with climate change being such a big problem, the University of Denver is also making an effort.
The top rating performer in the Rocky Mountain Region went to the University of Colorado in 2009. DU tied for second with Colorado College. The lowest rating school in the region was Brigham Young University, which received a D- on the report card.
With the climate change being such an important issue, it is not too surprising that DU students are working hard to make DU more environmentally friendly.
DU’s Eco-Cup allows students to buy coffee from Jazzmans, Starbucks, Stellas, and Kaladi Brothers and get a discount on coffee with the Eco-Cup. College students thrive on coffee so it was smart for students to come up with an eco-friendly idea that students will actually take advantage of.
The climate change is a serious problem so it is a very good thing that universities around the country, and especially in Colorado, are working so hard to be environmentally friendly.
There are many sources available on how schools can work on being more environmentally friendly http://www.greenschoolbuildings.org/Homepage.aspx?gclid=CLGmraOAhKACFQ2kagod0zg5pg. When college students around the U.S. work on keeping their universities environmentally friendly, we all have a better change of improving the climate change.
