‘Man on a Ledge’ falls flat

All the elements for a great thriller are present in director Asger Leth's "Man on a Ledge," but, in the end, the film falls short. The movie's plot follows Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), a former officer of the law and an escaped convict determined to prove his innocence after being wrongly convicted of a $40 million diamond theft.

‘The Grey’: a lesson in Nihilism

The aptly titled film, "The Grey," is a well-thought-out examination of the human survival instinct, following a band of seven plane crash survivors as they hike through the woods looking for rescue. A host of characters represent various possible alternatives based on archetypal personalities, and there is also a good bit of existential philosophy thrown into the film for good measure.

The Hulu Hitlist: Bowling competition brings laughs

It's the week of comedic women. Tina Fey, Chelsea Handler, Whitney Cummings and, taking the cake, Amy Poehler. This week's episode of Parks and Recreation is chock-full of hilarity with Ron (Nick Offerman) questioning his manhood, April (a parks department intern played by Aubrey Plaza) becoming a wizard and a political scandal during a bowling party for Leslie's campaign.

Oscars snub Gosling again

The 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony promises to go to down to the wire when the envelopes are opened and the winners announced on Sunday, Feb. 26. For the most part, the Academy did a good job of selecting its nominees for the top category; however, the last-minute addition of Stephen Daldry's "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" weakens this years crop slightly, as does the omission of powerful thrillers such as "Drive" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," which failed to make the cut.
