Don't feel like studying? Want to add a little drama to your life?
The University of Denver Theatre Department invites students, faculty and surrounding DU community members to "join us for three different and lively looks at the human condition - all rolled into one entertaining evening of theatre."
The department's annual performance of its "Trio of One Act Plays" begins tomorrow evening at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
This year's plays include Tennessee Williams' Southern drama "This Property is Condemned," George Bernard Shaw's cheeky "Overruled" and Craig Volk's recent "What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor?"
The casts of the plays are made up of DU students and faculty, as well as one student from Metropolitan College of Denver, who is the daughter of a member of the Theatre Department faculty.
The Tennessee Williams' play "This Property is Condemned" tells the story of two people living in Depression-era Dodson, Mississippi, whose steamy affair ignites the ire of the townspeople. This play is directed by Lawrence Hecht, this year's Marsico Visiting Guest Artist.
Hecht is a professional stage and screen actor and director widely known for his role as Neil Prescott in the Wes Craven "Scream" trilogy.
The play "Overruled" by George Bernard Shaw is the story of two British couples in the 1920s who decide to take a vacation from their spouses. This play is another tale of love affairs, as the vacationers encounter each other in foreign lands, then return home to deal with the conscequences of their actions. This play is directed by Kathryn Gray.
Craig Volk's "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor?" is the newest of the bunch at three years old. Volk, the author, will also be the director of DU's presentation of this most current version of his play.
According to Assistant Professor and Acting Chair of the Theatre Department Rick Barbour, the performances of all three plays will take about two hours and 20 minutes.
