AUSA Senate considers student safety issues
Officers: RTD lightrail debut brings crime

Campus Safety officers attended last week's AUSA Senate meeting to discuss safety measures on campus following the November opening of a light rail station just outside the campus.
Officer John Perry said officers have increased patrols and DU has installed additional video cameras and emergency phones for student safety.
There has been an increase in vandalism, car break-ins and graffiti since the light rail station's opening.
However, Perry stressed that "vehicles can be replaced, but people are [the] main concern" of DU's police department.
In other business, the senators heard from the Department of Recreation about the significant drop in student attendance at DU athletic events, particularly the women's and men's basketball games during the winter quarter.
Weather and the lure of snowboarding and skiing was blamed for the decrease.
The senators said they want to encourage student attendance at sports events.
Students are encouraged to attend Friday and Saturday's Division I hockey games and bring items to donate to a drive that will collect socks, foot-powder, toothpaste and toothbrushes for the needy.
In addition, Joseph Pellar, co-chair of the Academic Affairs Committee commented on registration.
"We are looking to put more information on the on the registration web site, so that students have a better idea of what the classes entail. For example, the number of tests and papers and how what percentage of those things go towards the final grade," Pellar said.
