Both men and women's Pioneer tennis teams were in away action this weekend with the women traveling to take on Georgia State Sunday and the men traveling to Utah to face a pair of schools.

The women snapped a two match losing streak and improved to 6-4 on the season with a forceful 7-0 sweep at Georgia State. It was their first win since February 17th.

The doubles tandems of Rachel Sackmaster/Ute Schnoy and Lorinda Boothman/Annette Aksdal both scored convincing wins over the Georgia State doubles teams to score the doubles point for the Pioneers.

Schnoy, Boothman, and Aksdal continued the successful day for the Pioneers with wins in their singles match as did Julia Bauregger, Kyla Iwinski, and Marisa Mechem.

The Women's team will try to continue their hot play when they travel to take on Colorado State on Saturday, March 3.

Unfortunately it was a different story for the men's team.

After a hot start to the season, which included their highest overall NCAA ranking in school history and a 7-0 sweep of in-state rival Air Force, the men's team dropped back-to-back matches this weekend.

On Friday, they squared off with BYU. The Pioneers took the doubles point to get out to an early 1-0 lead.

However, BYU stormed back to take five singles wins to seal the victory with a 5-2 victory.

One bright spot for the Pioneers was Niklas Persson's singles win, which improved the junior's overall season record to 6-0.

On Saturday, the men's team continued to struggle with a 5-2 defeat at the University of Utah.

Adam Holmstrom rebounded from his first defeat of the season at BYU with an exciting 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 singles victory. Nejc Smole scored the other DU point with a convincing 6-4, 6-3 victory.

The men's team will try to turn it around when they face Montana on Sunday, March 4.
